How can I prevent getting loose skin during weight loss?

I'm a 27 year old female who stands at 5"11. I weigh 220 lbs and I'm determined to lose 70-80 lbs with good old fashion diet and exercise.

I’ve gradually gained weight over the last 10 years, especially right after high school I gained like 40 lbs over the course of two years right after graduation. I really want to lose weight, but I'm afraid of the saggy mess that may follow. I can't afford the plastic surgery to get nipped and tucked, nor do I want to be cut open to begin with.

Does doing any of the following really help any… lose weight slowly, weight training, drinking lots of water, using creams (recommendations, please!), does being tall help, or will my skin sag no matter what I do.

A Doctors opinion would be a major bonus :), even though I’m open to all recommendations. Sharing personal experiences on this issue would be great also!

Ok, heres what you do....

1. As your losing fat, DO WEGHIT TRAINING, not only does weight training tone your muscles under your skin pulling your skin closer to the muslce but it also tones the skin

2. Drinking water helps to flush and refresh your system, so i'd say do that, if your for major weghit loss, id try drinking a gallon a day

3. CREAMS DONT WORK!!!!, but vitamin e helps

4. Keep it Up, it can turn around on you in a second

Now, That Should help tone your skin and muscles and help decrease fat all at the same time. It will be quite some time till your at Your goal weghit, but like i said, dont give up
Reply:My sunt did this.................make a sacrifice to eat as littlr bread as possible.......yes even subway..........no bread and jogging for about 2 hours a day trust me she lost weight..............and run with like a trash bag under your shirt it helps
Reply:those foam and rubber bands (sauna wraps) that you wrap around your body do a good job at tightening up the skin. but you are probably going to have to go with the surgery. that is alot of wieght to lose. congradulations and good luck.
Reply:Well this depends largely on your skins elasticity. This tends to get lost with age so the sooner you lose the weight the better. Permanently stretched skin will remain stretched, but it won't be nearly as bad as your envisioning it.

Take a good multivitamin daily and keep hydrated to make sure your skin remains healthy.
Reply:as long as you don't lose weight super fast, i don't think you will get loose skin... i think the people that are getting the loose skin, are the ones getting the stomach shrinking surgery...they lose the weight very fast and are left with lots of unwanted skin... weight training should help too... it will tone you... i don't think that people who lose weight at a natural pace get saggy, loose skin...
Reply:Sorry, you can't avoid loose skin but you can try to contain it as much as possible. You skin is elastic, which is what allowed weight gain in the first place and what will haunt you for a bit in certain areas as you lose weight. Don't be discouraged though. Look for a body lotion with vitamin E and perhaps seaweed extract and apply it to danger areas three times a day. Also, expose yourself to the sun during the summer- though make sure you protect yourself from the dangerous rays with sunblock -as the sun tans and makes your skin taught. Keep at it and your work and discipline will pay off. You sound driven and that is an awesome thing.
Reply:Water helps flush fat and toxins out of the body. Too much water can be just as bad as not enough water though. 8 eight ounce glasses of water a day is just right. I drink 4 bottles of 16.9 ounces (half a liter) a day to get my 8/8 of water.

Losing weight slowly is the best defense against loose skin. If you lose weight slowly, the skin can shrink with the weight loss.

Most doctors will tell you that the best amount to lose is 3-4 pounds per MONTH if you want to keep it off.

Creams and such, I have never tried so I can't help personally with that, though a lot of people I know swear by cocoa butter.

Good luck!
Reply:Take it slow and easy and you should have little problem. That is unless your skin has stretched too much in which case you will probably need the surgery to get nipped and tucked.
Reply:u should eat a proper diet and should go to gim
Reply:Jamie, if you exercise you are not likely to have saggy skin. You are still young and your skin is still very supple. You don't need to worry about saggy skin. That may have been a problem if you had to lose 200 pounds. All of the things you mentioned will help.

I applaud your level headed approach at losing weight. You can do it!
Reply:Should of thought of all this before you stuffed yourself with cake and sweets....Shouldn't you?
