My friend (who is a nutritionist) told me that I should probably prepare myself for loose skin after a such a weight loss. She said I can diminish the dreaded results by losing it really slowly (like a pound a week). I feel so discouraged. If that's the way it's going to be, I think I'll just give up my dream of having a bikini body and just lose 10 pounds and get really toned. It's better than nothing.
I'm 5'8" if that helps and my skin is really fair. I had planned on losing the weight through a mixture of my favorite cardio activities (walking, biking, hiking) and strength training workouts (like The Firm and BeachBody).
Please help!
I'm a 33-year-old woman who wants to lose 30 pounds (go from 165 to 135). Will I have ugly loose skin after?
Listen don't be discouraged. Start a new you and see how you go and after 1 year of following a healthy plan you are not happy take further actions but try it naturally first. Never give reasons not to try so just do it.
If you want to do this it is for life so you need to totally change your way of eating and exercising. This is not a diet rather than a healthy eating plan for life. So no more talking diet cause it means time limit.
Here are the golden rules:
Initially cut down to 1200 calories.
Exercise 6 times per week for 1 hours a day. Do three weight sessions and three cardio sessions. No gym involved.
Don't eat carbs after 4pm, never eat carbs within 2 hours of exercise or within 1 hour of exercise.
Drink 3 litres of water per day. You can have a green tea at the end of the day.
Limit your fruit in take to 2 pieces per day.
Never eat dinner after 6pm.
Adopt of low GI eating plan this is sustainable for life!
Make low fat dairy choices
Follow this menu plan as a suggestion:
Breakfast 7am - 1 cup hot water w lemon
20 minutes later have a bowel of oats w water (no honey) OR
fruit salad w low GI soy yogurt
Snack 10am - pear or apple (both low GI)
Lunch 12.30pm - muligrain sandwich w 50g tuna %26amp; salad (no butter)
Snack 3pm - low GI yogurt OR skim berry smoothie (no honey or banana) plenty of ice, 1/2 cup skim milk %26amp; 1/4 cup yogurt
Dinner 5.30pm - 120g grilled lean meat/fish/prawns/tofu patties (not fried) w spinach salad %26amp; mixed vegies (no whites, carbs) OR 3 egg white/soy omlette with ham, cheese and tomato
Snack - 1 scoop of low cal low fat ice cream (if hungry)
Exercise is must be intense. Refer to www.bodybuilding.com for your weights routine. Never do weights two consecutive days have a cardio day in between.
Cardio needs to include running, go hard up stair wells and cycling. You get the most benefits from exercise when your body is totally fatigued and this is when you see changes.
To maintain you can increase calories to 1500 and reduce exercise sessions to 3-4 times per week. If weight creeps up again due to holiday period etc.. go back to 1200 cal and 6 sessions again.
Good luck it worked for me it can work for anyone.
Reply:yes
Reply:Hmm. I'm not a pro on this or anything, but if you loose weight on the more slowish side, it shouldn't be a problem.
Reply:No one can say for sure. The elasticity in your skin will depend the results after the weight loss. Lose the weight becasue it's healthy. you can worry about the loose skin at the end if you have it and then look into options (surgical and nonsurgical) to address that.
Reply:I would keep going with your plan.
You can have a nip and tuck if any loose skin appears.
Its better to be thinner than to carry the fat.
Reply:Not with 30 pounds.
Reply:how weird I'm also 33 and 5'8". The only way you'll have loose skin is to loose the weight extremely quickly, and that's an unhealthy thing to do. You need to eat healthy for life, and have that outlook. I lost weight, and here's how I did it. I kept a food diary and restricted myself to 1500 calories, 30 fat grams daily. I excercised for an hour 5-6 days a week. I did a mix of cardio and weights (weights are sooo important!) I lost about 2-3 pounds a week! It takes a while. Don't get discouraged!!! You can do it!
Reply:Probably yes.. but there are ways to get the loose skin removed.
Reply:Skin is very elastic and a mere 30 pounds isn't going to leave anything noticeable. Post a picture when you are done!
Reply:I worked at a gym and saw many people loose more then 30 pounds and not have a problem with it. I lost 25 and didn't notice any at all. Like others have said as long as you loose it slowly and do it right with cardio and weight training you should be fine. Especially at your young age! If you do it should tighten up over the next couple of months.
Reply:i'm not sure it depends of what type of skin you have
Reply:Astro was right.{"how weird I'm also 33 and 5'8". The only way you'll have loose skin is to loose the weight extremely quickly, and that's an unhealthy thing to do.}, so the key word here is 'quickly' good luck.
Reply:There are several weight loss programs out there that include products to help with such a problem as flappy skin. It works with most people, and there are many success stories from those who use different programs.
Reply:Eat several (4-6) small meals a day...your body will burn calories faster and build your metabolism in a short period of time.
(eat about every 2 hours)
The first 8-10 pounds you shed is water.
Meal suggestions:
1st: piece of fruit
2nd: string cheese, summer sausage, cottage cheese/yogurt
3rd: bowl of cereal
4th: soup/sandwich
5th: a good dinner-meat, potatoes/pasta, veggie...your body needs carbs, protein and vitamins to stay healthy
6th: salad/raw veggies
Drink plenty of water
Drink milk or juice/water with every meal (no soda pop)
Stay away from munchies, fried %26amp; fatty foods.
While losing weight, simple exercise (walking/hiking, games like volleyball, baseball, basketball, soccer) will tone your body and you'll have fun doing it, aerobic activities such as swimming, cycling, jogging or classes, and toning activities such as light weights.
Use a body-firming cream each day to help keep your skin supple and smooth. Good luck!
Reply:If you do the exercises and don't lose it too quickly you shouldn't.
Reply:Hi: As a retired nurse whose lost 120 lbs., my professional and personal opinion is you will probably not have alot of loose skin at your age. Consider how many children you've had also. The elasticity depends on scar tissue and age; and how long you've carried the extra weight. If you're gonna lose it, lose now while your skin can recover. At first it may look loose and it will tighten up a bit as you go along. I agree: take it slow 1-2 lbs. a week and plenty of protien, water and moderate exercise. At 5'8" you're probably NOT 30 lbs. overweight. Try 10 and see how you feel. I can tell you that massive weight loss like mine will definitely result in loose skin. You should do fine. Good Luck!
